Masterclass with Bernarda and Marcos Fink

The Bildungshaus Sodalitas is once again hosting a singing master class from Monday, August 12 to Saturday, August 17, 2024 with mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink and bass-baritone Marcos Fink.
This intensive, one-week training masterclass provides an excellent opportunity to learn under the auspices of two world-famous singers and outstanding music educators, whose help will prepare you for the new academic year, auditions, concerts, competitions, entrance exams, or simply an individualized program of study. The master class is geared towards singing students enrolled at universities and colleges, high school students at music conservatories, and other experienced singers whose prerequisites qualify them for a degree at a professional level.

The master class provides answers to questions about all facets of the art of music, such as the training of the voice and its meaning, musical style and interpretation, and the art of performing. Singers select their repertoire themselves which can be comprised of songs, cantatas, oratorios and operas.

The 45-minute lessons take place one-on-one; however, they are accessible to others who, as passive participants, are able to be a part of the lessons without their own direct one-on-one instruction.

The mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Slovenian parents. Her singing and music training took place at the Insituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, where she has also regularly performed since the beginning of her career. Her repertoire is extremely broad and encompasses older music to works from contemporary composers. She has been invited to perform as lead singer by some of the most significant orchestras, such as the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, the State Orchestras of Berlin and Dresden, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as well as from leading Baroque orchestras; she has sung under such notable conductors as Barenboim, Blomstedt, Bychkow, Chailly, Gardiner, Gergiev, Jacobs, Jansons, Muti, Norrington, Pinnock, Prêtre, Rattle, Saraste, and Welser-Möst, among others. Bernarda was awarded the Austrian Honor for Science and Art and also holds the honorary title of Kammersängerin. In 2013 she received, together with Marcos Fink, the Prešeren Award - Slovenia's highest cultural honor.

The bass baritone Marcos Fink was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the son of Slovenian parents. His singing training was with Ivan Ivanov and Victor Srugo and he participated in master classes with Philippe Huttenlocker, Wolfgang Schöne, Erik Werba, and Aldo Baldin. Engagements brought him to renowned operas and concert houses all over the world: in Paris, Bordeaux, Basel, Berlin, Frankfurt, Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, Geneva, Rome, Milan, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Tokyo, Osaka, Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo, Calgary, and Houston, among others. There he worked together with conductors such as Michel Corboz, Hans Graf, Leopold Hager, Alain Lombard, Semyon Bychkow, Uwe Mund, Milan Horvat, Pinchas Steinberg, Anton Nanut, Lior Shambadal, and René Jacobs. The CD Canciones argentinas (2007), recorded with his sister Bernarda Fink and the pianist Carmen Piazzini, was nominated for both a Grammy Award (Best Classical Vocal Performance) and a BBC Music Award. The album Slovenija! (with Bernarda Fink) with Slovenian art songs was released in March 2011 on Harmonia mundi. He recorded three song cycles for Radio Slovenija's CD productions which were recognized in 1998 with the Orphée d'Or by the Academie du disque lyrique as the best interpretation (for the Winterreise) and won the Prešeren Foundation Slovenian cultural award in 1999 and 2013.
